Testifying to the Suffering of the World

Matthew 27:45-46

45 From noon on, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 46 And about three o’clock Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Jesus’ death on the cross exposes and judges the causes of violence and suffering of the world. Jesus on the cross says that some things are not okay. Some things we must oppose and fight against.

Flip through some newspapers and magazines, or even the news online, finding stories of violence, suffering and oppression in our world. Imagine that these stories are affixed to a cross beside Jesus. Say a brief prayer over them, crying out, this is not okay.
