community

We believe small groups are a great environment for spiritual growth at Journey of Faith. Regardless of where you are in your journey with God, you have a place to belong. Community is deeply grounded in the nature of God.

In small groups, people can get close enough to know each other, “to care and share, to challenge and support, to confide and confess, to forgive and be forgiven, to laugh and weep together, to be accountable to each other, to watch over one another and to grow together.”

Personal growth does not happen in isolation. God uses people to form community. We’re called to love, not in abstract ways, but in deep, abiding, face-to-face, life-on-life ways.

Small Groups aren’t something to observe; they’re something to experience. You are a participant in God’s story, with an active role to fulfill.

So how can you begin? It’s simple — jump into a group and “bring your Bible, curiosity, enthusiasm and joy.”

This group will focus on Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual Transformation. Invite a friend.

Date: Every Sunday from May 5 — May 26, 2019

Time: 12:00PM

Location: Journey of Faith Christian Church

Overview: 'While I was trying harder and doing more, there was a yawning emptiness underneath it all that no amount of activity, Christian or otherwise, could fill... In the midst of such barrenness, it was hard to even imagine what Jesus might have meant when he said, "I came that they might have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). My responses to sermons and devotional reflections on this verse were cynical at best. The Christian life didn't feel that way to me...

'The longing for significance, the longing for love, the longing for deep and fundamental change, the longing for a way of life that works, the longing to connect experientially and even viscerally with Someone beyond ourselves-- these longings led me to search out spiritual practices and establish life rhythms that promised something more.'

Ruth Haley Barton writes these words in the opening chapter of her book Sacred Rhythms: Arranging Our Lives for Spiritual TransformationThroughout the Easter season, as a church, we will accept her invitation to explore our longings for more through spiritual exploration and play. We'll do this in worship-- through prayer and praise and responding to the Scripture--and in small group conversation.
