The celebration of new life on Easter tells us, you have a second (third, fourth, twentieth) chance at full and everlasting life and that new chance starts now. On Pentecost, the apostles waited in the upper room. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as tongues of fire. And it filled them with power. Every time we celebrate Pentecost, we are invited to return to waiting, to re-open our hearts, to receive anew the power of the Holy Spirit.
After being filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles went out into the streets and proclaimed the story of Christ and the coming of the Kingdom of God. Thousands joined them— the birth of the church. Every time we celebrate Pentecost, we are invited to live out our Holy Spirit given gifts in the world, to proclaim God’s love to all, to rebirth the church. On Easter, we remember and experience the truth that new life is possible for each and every one of us in Christ.
On Pentecost, we remember that new life is possible for all of us together, as a community of believers, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
