Acts of Service

John 13: 12-15

12 After he had washed their feet, had put on his robe, and had returned to the table, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am. 14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.

On his last night with his disciples, Jesus got down on his knees before them and washed their feet. This was an act of extreme humility and service. He called them to do the same for others.

For many of us acts of service, especially in the context of our families, are part of our daily lives. But how often do we offer service when it’s not expected or demanded of us? In the next couple of days, find a way to humble yourself as Jesus did and do something unexpected to take care of another person.
